Week 4

1) When I hear the word “monster”, I think of someone who knowingly endangers other people. I don’t think of a monster in any “fantasy” way; with claws and razor sharp teeth and what not. So being able to draw a monster if I thought about it, I really couldn’t do.

I think our ideas, as a nation, of “monsters” come from the fairy tales we all heard as children and tell as adults. Our minds start to associate the word “monster” with a vile, disgusting, creature spawned up from the most creative of minds.

I definitely think the word “monster” has more than one meaning, depending on who you are asking to describe it. Children may think, with the limited knowledge they possess, that there is only the “disgusting” meaning behind a monster, but adults may be able to give you more. (For example, the meaning that I gave you.)

2) Beowulf is an epic hero because his actions within the “Beowulf” tale demonstrate how courageous he was in slaying many monsters, Grendel and his mother included.

3) Our project is going very well. Many days in working on it were lost due to school cancellations, but it is still a majority of the part complete. I like the creativity behind the drawings in the project.

Yes, our project did help me understand the story more because it helped me to picture the events that occurred within the story.

Week 2

2) My favorite superhero is Superman. Superman is very humble about his powers, very kind, and very responsible. “Hero” to me is a word that goes along with those that risk their lives and their safety in any way presented to them to help others; alot of the time, others in danger. Superhero is more of a fantasy-related term that goes along with those with “special powers” that enable them to save others very easily. A “hero” is much different, much more courageous, and something humans can truly be.

3) Beowulf is a very interesting story, although very difficult to understand and follow along with in a text form. Listening to a portion on tape enabled me to picture the story better than taking so much time just to pronounce the words and then trying to picture the story did.

Week 1

1) Qualities a good leader hasĀ are patience, a good sense of humor, very responsible, a very positive outlook in pretty much every aspect of the word, constructive (not in a negative way), creative, able to work with a team, respectful, and patience.

A good leader has many of the traits listed above if not all of them. A good leader tries his/her hardest all of the time and, although he/she may get down after failing once or twice, realizes that success comes from trying again and again until you do not fail anymore.

A good leader in my life is my dad, being with him for 18 years has shown me that even when things get him down, he realizes what he must do for himself and for those around him to succeed.
